American Airlines this week inserted the uncreative and unfortunate Platinum Pro level between Platinum and Executive Platinum.
Other airlines know there are other metals on the market. The elite status I want, though, is gritty: Flying Blue Petroleum.
You can be a blue collar, man of the people and still have elite status.
The regular consumer Flying Blue tiers are Ivory, Silver, Gold and Platinum, with the separate Jeune program for children age 2-24.
Petroleum is for oil industry professionals at participating companies that make one long-haul round-trip or two short- or medium-haul round-trips to Air France/KLM oil destinations per year.
The core benefits are similar to SkyTeam Sky Priority with priority check-in, baggage and transfer, plus lounge access in Paris CDG and Amsterdam AMS.
Nothing special, except the cool name!
Readers, what other industry-specific travel statuses are out there?

@FlyingXplorer – thank you, I will check this one out. I generally avoid Lufthansa/Swiss/Austrian over the advance seat selection issue despite my Star Alliance Gold.
Bizzare, “Petroleum” is so….last century. Not even just out dated but rejected. A more forward looking brand would have been more inspiring.
I had FB Petroleum for a few years but it is important to note you do not get lounge access if your itinerary on KL originates in AMS, or if your AF itinerary originates in CDG. That was the real smacker for me and I had no qualms about losing FB Petroleum in favour of the other Skyteam status matches (Alitalia, AeroMexico) in recent times.
@Tim – that is silly on lounge access, why do airlines out a benefit then restrict it in a way to ensure unhappy customers?
I want offically recognized Kryptonium status.
Nothing less will do.
You are so funny! I totally get it this time;)
