My chain hotel mantra is ‘subtract a star in Europe, add a star in Asia.’ Particularly as it comes to elite status recognition, European hotels lag, and then there are the issues like finding an ironing board. Asia editions of global chain hotels often surpass their peers elsewhere.

The new Doubletree Suzhou looks really cool. There are plenty of artist conception images and few traveler photos so I don’t want to get carried away. Trip Advisor has 3 interior shots.

Using HHonors points the hotel is 10,000 points/night. Many of China’s Hilton hotels are good value points and/or cash rates.

It is in Suzhou’s China-Singapore Industrial Park, some distance from the famed gardens of Suzhou city. Not ideal for sightseeing, so this would be more for kick back and relax.

Suzhou is connected by constant bullet trains from Shanghai, a 1-2 hour journey depending on station and train. Because of its proximity to Shanghai, Suzhou does not have its own airport. It is one of the most prosperous cities in China and a delight for tourists with its history and gardens.

Not to be confused with the Doubletree Suzhou of neighboring Anhui Province.

It is well worth the visit, along with dropping into one or more of the many temples that form oasis of calm in the midst of the city. For those interested in silk, one of China’s major factories… Read more »

Some of these Doubletrees in Asia are crazy. We stayed at the Doubletree in Johor Bahru, Malaysia (right across the causeway from Singapore). It was also a Cat 2 (10K / night) and was crazy nice, including an executive lounge which we got as Diamonds. The Doubletree in Kuala Lumpur is also nice from what I’ve heard and also only a Cat 2
