Myanmar continues to open and the tourist hoards are descending.
Air Asia is a reliable, inexpensive and sexy way to reach Myanmar, with frequent flights from its hubs at Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. From October 1, Bangkok will become less convenient for connecting passengers as Air Asia shifts it operations to the old Don Mueang International Airport (DMK).
The new Bangkok (DMK) – Mandalay (MDL) route will commence 4 October 2012 and operate on Mon/Tue/Thu/Sat. Booking for this route is now open.
Many Myanmar itineraries include stops in Mandalay and this can eliminate a layover in Yangon.
The only other international routes to Mandalay are from Kunming and Dehong in China on China Eastern. Convenient for very, very few travelers.
