If you’ve been using American Express business cards for OPEN Savings of 5% or 2 points at participating merchants, that program permanently ends today, May 31, 2018. Any charges from June 1, 2018 will not earn OPEN Savings.
Merchants had dwindled to:
- Hertz
- Fedex
- HP
- 1-800-Flowers
- Barnes & Noble
This will hit me hard with my frequent Hertz rentals.
Going forward check Amex Offers for deals. Those are targeted, limited time and/or amount, and require enrollment.
In contrast, OPEN Savings did not even require registration, though you could toggle between cash rebate and bonus points on certain cards.
Amex probably thought they were giving away rewards to people who might not even be noticing it. Perhaps they also thought it confusing to have OPEN Savings and Amex Offers.
Whatever the reason, I am not going to hunt around Amex Offers so I’ve already changed my Hertz default payment card to by CNB Crystal Visa Infinite.
