On May 1 Delta is holding a gala party to open T4X in Soho , a preview space of the soon-to-open, remodeled JFK Terminal 4.
My wife tittered with delight that she was invited and not me. After the smug laughs she deigned to permit me to be her guest. Unfortunately, due to some last-minute business commitments we cannot attend.
We both are Delta Diamonds, have a similar mix of business and leisure travel. I fly about 75% more than her, and already have qualified for 2013 Diamond. For business we are both generally business class international and economy class domestic, though she gets business on transcontinental flights. We both fly SkyTeam partners a bit. For leisure we are in economy or on awards.
I had the opportunity to meet the Delta team at the Randy Petersen Executive Travel Summit and had a good laugh. They, too, were curious what landed her the invitation and not me. I said whatever it was, it gave us such a fun moment that the formula worked. Who can blame them for inviting the glamorous traveler who turns breakfast buffet into spa treatment and giving her dowdy husband the brush off?
Postscript: both of us, as medallions, have also been invited to visit T4X sometime May 1-22 to receive a free lunch. So at least I am worth a ham sandwich. 🙂

That is really interesting. Do you think it’s because Delta wants 50/50 ratio on males and females? I’d imagine most of the elite flyers on any airline are males and if it’s to be a good party, there should be good mix of females present as well!
