Delta is welcoming Japan’s Golden Week by sending off New York-Tokyo flights with a bit of pomp.
I walked up to my JFK-NRT flight on Monday just as boarding was wrapping up. Delta agents were giving candy and gold colored balloons to children. The children were reluctant to surrender the balloons upon boarding but it kept they happily distracted during the pre-boarding wait.
For elites a gate agent in kimono gave clear bags with two chocolates and a holiday greeting with QR code. The QR code redirects to a page on the new JFK Terminal 4 opening soon.
I agree with Million Mile Secrets that Delta is quite smart and well-run. What they see as important for their customers is different than what I want as one particular customer. I have to give them credit, though, for creative things like this.
