openhousenewyork is one of those events so cool that all the words must be rammed together without spaces.

The event is this weekend, October 6-7, 2012, with sites of all stripes open, many free, some requiring advance registration and payment of $5.

The website takes effort to find the listings, click Plan Your Weekend and you are taken to map view, then the upper right of the map has icons for grid view and list view. Too cool to use text labels.

Wandering Aramean first called my attention to the event at JFK Terminal 5’s TWA Flight Center. It is only open Sunday, October 7, 10 am – 4 pm. No registration required, just deliver yourself to JFK Terminal 5 JetBlue Terminal and head for baggage claim carousel 6 to find the entrance. Those who cannot attend should browse Seamus Murray’s photo album on flickr from last year’s event.

I would not mind having my first positive JFK experience but my flight that day is not scheduled to arrive until 6 pm.

There are many worthy activities through the weekend, a number of special events, and partners:

  • Designer’s Open House at the homes of 15 “superstars of design,” see photos here. I have not heard of any of them which says something about me, not them.
  • Historic House Festival by the Historic House Trust at 23 houses, running Friday, October 5 through the weekend.

Readers, the list is long, which sites and events do you recommend?
