My first big overseas trip was a high school class trip to China. The final stop was Hong Kong, a month before the 1997 handover to China. Knowing the centrality of shopping to life in Hong Kong, on a lark I picked up Suzy Gershman’s Born to Shop Hong Kong.

The book was a delight, practical and illuminating of a place where seemingly every metro station has a shopping mall perched above, replete with luxury boutiques.

Ms. Gershman passed away last Wednesday at age 64.

The series is currently owned by Frommer’s and the most recently updated titles are for Hong Kong, Shanghai & Beijing, New York, Paris and Italy. Other titles, such as for London, are out of print but available used.

Why not take a moment to indulge in a little shopping therapy research?
