Colonial ties and modern tourism have network of hopper routes in the Caribbean. I previously covered British Airways Caribbean hopper routes that can be redeemed for awards with Avios.
Now let’s turn to SkyTeam + Virgin Atlantic. Air France and KLM flights be redeemed as awards from their own FlyingBlue program and across SkyTeam partners such as Delta. Virgin Atlantic partners with Delta as well but is not SkyTeam, instead having its own partners. These flights sometimes show on delta.com. Watch out for Air France’s many codeshares with local airlines that won’t work for awards.
Potentially a great use of these flights is combining with trips to Europe, or other regions where there are award chart sweet spots, such as the FlyingBlue Hawaii-Caribbean region found by Travel is Free.

Airport taxes are high throughout the Caribbean so many awards have a significant cash component. Always compare to buying a revenue ticket and against local carriers. For instance, Air Caraïbes and Corsair operate many of the same routes, with much more frequency, as Air France.
Many of these flights seasonally change frequency, are generally not daily and do not always fly both ways between cities, so verify schedule before hunting for awards.

Does the Air France Hopper still exist? Can a person fly direct from CAY to PAP or CAP? Any ideas?
@Francophile – it looks like some routes still exist between MIA, PAP, FDF, PTP, and CAY. CAP does not have AF service. To go between CAY and PAP you’ll probably need to go through FDF or PTP.
[…] it stands, Air France operates the following Caribbean hopper flights, per a Rapid Travel Chai post in […]
@john – KLM I had the hardest time finding accurate info, and I didn’t have time to test every one. Upon looking deeper, the AUA-BON-CUR does currently operate as codeshares operated by InselAir, I will update. And as usual, you look to be right on SXM-CUR as well!
Never heard of Corsair before. Its funny though, their route map shows Puerto Rico tagged as St Barths.
There is also Air Antilles express connecting some French islands.
Are you sure about KLM flying SXM-CUR both ways? I thought its only SXM-CUR. The reason being the runway in SXM is not long enough for a 747 to take off with a full tank of fuel. So from AMS to SXM and then the plane has to go to CUR to fill up and be able to take off back to AMS.
Also, KLM has hopper flights between AUA-CUR-BON (not sure which directions/islands)
