Club Carlson Visa: Double Points on Carlson, Avis/Budget AND Gas Stations

Check out our Top Rewards Cards to boost your points earning and travel more!

Club Carlson is emailing their credit card holders with an offer of double points October 1-December 31, 2017.

Club Carlson Visa Double Points Q4 2017

With the Premier Rewards Visa and Business Rewards Visa you will earn:

  • 20 10 points per dollar on stays at  Radisson Blu, Radisson, Park Plaza, Park Inn and Country Inns & Suites
  • 10 5 points per dollar on car rentals with Avis/Budget
  • 10 5 points per dollar at gas stations

The $50 and $0 annual fee card versions earn less.

The offer is here and does not appear targeted. No registration required. The offer implies that any version of Club Carlson Visa is eligible.

I received the emails for my personal and business Club Carlson accounts that are linked to the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa and the Club Carlson Business Rewards Visa.

Club Carlson is sending the emails to Club Carlson accounts. This is not US Bank’s occasional targeted offers.

Bonus points will post 5-6 weeks after purchase. This will be faster than how US Bank typically stretches out bonuses for 1-2 statement cycles following a promotion period.

Maximizing the Offer

I have been holding off on annual $10,000 spend for the free US night certificate to see if I get any good targeted spend offers. I am on the fence about the worth of generating $10,000 spend to earn 50,000 points and a night certificate.

I have not had offers on either card; my wife had a June-July extra point per dollar offer up to 5,000 points that we are still waiting for US Bank to award the points.

With double points at gas stations it is worth it to me to net 100,000 points and a night certificate. It will be great if US Bank can send me a targeted spend offer to stack, too!

My card anniversaries are mid-December so I can spend $10,000 on either side of the date to take care of the next year, too. This is defined as:

One Club CarlsonSM Visa® Reward Card Free Night E-Certificate (“E-Cert”) is available per Account if you charged US $10,000 or more in Net Purchases (purchases minus credits and returns) on the Account during the 12-month statement cycle period immediately prior to the annual anniversary of your Account opening date.

In practice, and I have just called to reconfirm, this is the statement date in your anniversary month. My cards were opened on a December 10, my statements will be December 19 and the cut-off for the spend will be that December statement, not November.

how do you spend $10,000 in such a short time? All by gift cards?

Yes, some gas stations or stores coded as gas stations accept credit cards to purchase gift cards. US Bank is very fussy with fraud prevention so anything with them adds in time on long holds to life security freezes. Over time they have loosen up the controls on cards if you have regular big spend.
