I seldom pay attention to Delta’s fare sale emails. Today’s caught my attention for 5,000 mile discounts on award trips to Latin America & Caribbean. Santiago, Chile is included for 10,000 miles off. Book before June 24, 2013.
UPDATE: see my post on where to go.
For Delta to quote anything based on low award prices seems disingenuous. But I fired up delta.com and there is an incredible amount of low awards available, see September’s award calendar for Atlanta-Managua, all green and this time the calendar is accurate! They price out at the sale price of 30,000 miles roundtrip. Note that I am seeing availability as a Diamond; availability on Delta varies by SkyMiles level.
This particularly interests me as I do not remember other times where they have discounted award prices. My Delta experience is only post-merger and perhaps I have just been oblivious.
The full details are here, the main catches are:

My home port is Atlanta and I am confused by the sale offering there. I’d love to fly to St. Kitts on this great sale but evidently Delta doesn’t even fly there (according to Delta.com and Hipmunk.com. How is it that Delta made such a mistake?
@HeavenlyJane – ah, I did not check that one, this must be an issue like JFK-Antigua, where I similarly could find no evidence of flights over the sale period, quite unprofessional.
@james k. Thank you for the most illuminating comment! To me and the other “populist vocabularians,” being sneaky and insincere are both attributes integral in the act of “lying.” I am most grateful there are those out there willing to emerge from their lairs to eludicate these most riveting if topics! Have a nice day!

Avios are also good for Central America. If memory serves, CLT-MGA is 30K Avios.
Noce, thanks! I might pop down to Nicaragua for a weekend. I’ve long wanted to stay at the very inexpensive InterContinental there.

Great catch. If I didn’t already have my ticket to MGA this fall, I’d be all over this.
No, disingenuous means sneaky and insincere. Which is apt for the context in which he used it. Don’t be a populist vocabularian.
Disingenuous=political hack speak for what we mere plebs call “lying”
