Stay to earn. The Choice Privileges® Visa Signature Card currently comes with a 32,000 point bonus, 8,000 for first purchase, a further 24,000 for first stay at a Choice Hotels brand in the US. I applied and received this card for use in Europe and Australasia, where Choice Privileges points can be quite handy.
I do not want to get in the business of paying for hotel rooms I will not use, similar to my reticence at buying points. So arriving for a weekend ahead of a business trip to Las Vegas, I found the Clarion Hotel and Casino Near Las Vegas Strip (yes, that really is the name), with a $40 Friday rate, hard to beat that!
The hotel is situated between the Wynn and the Las Vegas Convention Center. The room is quite comfortable. I am not a hotel snob. The room has two things that I highly value:
- Fast, free internet that simply connects and works, no irritating splash screens and sign-up process.
- An empty refrigerator for me to use.
Having recently stayed in 4 and 5-star hotels in Brazil and Central America where I sometimes couldn’t even get a darn coffee maker in my room, I am quite happy, and looking forward to my $5.55 steak & eggs breakfast, followed by a hike with two special travel friends.
Update: breakfast is good, staff is charming.
