Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, between Kentucky and Tennessee, is peaceful in winter, waiting for warm weather to bring out its full attractions.

We roamed the leaf-lined roads, stopping at peaceful bays, spotting an occasional fisherman or hiker. The Elk and Bison Prairie is a fun loop, though we were not early birds and did not spot the elk.

In summer, from the mid-19th century recreation The Homeplace to even a planetarium, there is good variety for the family be it a day trip or a long stay.
