The Travel + Leisure Global Bazaar this past weekend in New York was an odd event, quite expensive, $75 daytime, $125 for boozy evenings. Layout was a trade show but hardly a brochure to be found. Some booths it was not even clear the identity of the sponsor. Belize had a dimly lit bar. The Indian spice stand I have no idea who was the sponsor, but provided my romantic appeasement for the evening. Delta had a pop-up Sky Club. Everyone tried a sleek and sexy soft-sell.
I got a free ride to the press preview by asking nicely and referring to this blog, so was not present to see how paying attendees responded. My guess is some enjoyed the experience, others confounded, some feeling they blew a lot of cash. For drinkers, the adult evening sessions would have had a good ROI by working all the booths as alcohol was most everywhere. Trash cans were harder to identify since made out of the same crates as many booths.
Park Hyatt wins for food – yum!
Sharing pictures of a trade show seems a bit lame, but I enjoyed the less guarded, offstage moments as performers set up and tested their acts.
