Feeding stop in Key Largo to prevent wife revolt. Searches had found a lot of restaurants offering essentially the same Keys mix of diner food and seafood. Sharkey’s Pub & Galley stuck out for reviews that honed in on the seafood and location at a marina, world’s away from dreary US-1. A $20 for $30 deal on yelp helped, too. I need to learn more about yelp.
Sharkey’s is the typical Keys hangout, its isolated location (bring GPS or map) ensures a predominantly local fisherman crowd.
Seafood expert wife pronounced the bourbon sauce scallops excellent. The steamed clams and calamari top notch. The open face Hogfish Key Largo is a satisfying entree with an interesting play on the Keys lime theme in the sauce.
Affable owner, the rest of the service is friendly though brusque.
Only downside, now I need to find a “Don’t Worry, Be Crabby Sign” for wife to take home.
Great stop along the road to Key West.
Readers, what Key Largo restaurants have to tried and loved or loathed?

If you are still there, try the fish burrito lady food truck! Look her up on yelp. I forgot where it is, but I am sure you can find it. We are seafood vegetarian, so we stopped by her truck 3 times in 2 days when we drove down there in July 2011. There is also a dessert place she recommended. Ask her for restaurant recommendations. Have fun!
On the way back, do Shula Burger by the Tiki Bar for the Napa Burger and Sweet Potato tater tots!
