Houston Airport, Where Are Your Maps?

Part of my dalliance with a United 1K challenge was my first swing through Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Interesting place to stroll, some terminals choked with United flyers, other quiet, seemingly derelict. There even is a decent Air France lounge for us Delta flyers.

I did not, however, find a terminal map during my explorations. I found plenty of people looking for one. I observed a wall touchscreen puzzle that looked like it might be map. Numerous people, myself included tried to activate it without success.

Where are the maps?

This thing is a tease

One possibility is that nearly all flat surfaces of the airport are festooned with ads for the Chase Explorer card.

The signage in the airport is ok, but where are the maps?

I observed the same thing a few months ago, arriving on a red eye and looking for a place to eat breakfast. Ended up settling for fast food, and then on the way to the departure gate (maybe at the people mover station in terminal B?) finally found one lonely map.

Open Google maps on your phone and search for IAH and zoom in … you’re welcome 😉 FYI: about 2 dozen airports in the US plus another couple dozen worldwide are also mapped.

@dixon – that is a good tip, I recall playing with the Google zoom when they started adding detailed airport maps. I do not see that as a justification for them not putting any maps out there. Plenty of people without smart phones.

@Papa Smurf – I will have to look for it next time. I just wandered around and did not plan in advance. Too bad I missed it.

Based on your post I’m assuming that you did not come across the George Bush shrine? That’s something you don’t get to see everyday.

I feel like all UA hubs are overloaded with Chase Explorer card ads.
