Should I Be ‘That Guy’, Swinging the New Delta Million Miler Luggage Tags?

Check out our Top Rewards Cards to boost your points earning and travel more!

When I was a corporate road warrior I had a luggage tag or two on my briefcase. There were useful conversation starters in that business environment. As long as they were top tier status and looked good. The Delta Diamond Medallion metal tags made good clink sound. The United 1K were cheap and were soon removed. Hotels were mostly pedestrian.

Adding a tag you soon start noticing the tags other people have and get snooty. ‘Well, why does Delta make the Diamond and Silver tags look so similar?’ ‘That is last year’s tag, must not have requalified.’

Or get put in your place when a 4M tag saunters by. 4 Million Miler = lifetime Platinum Medallion.

Delta Million Miler tags

The regular Delta SkyMiles luggage tags denote million miler status in faint text. The only thing fainter is the SkyTeam ElitePlus logo.

I made 1M a few years ago. Out of the blue, million milers myself have received new luggage tags.

There is no account information or practical purpose like luggage bar code. These are solely decorative. Pure show off.

The design is pretty nice.

Construction is standard plastic. The connector straps are clear plastic.

Should I hitch them up? Or wait a few more years to have 2M? Or stay low key?

I kept my old metal cards from a previous year too. They are quasi eternal, although they look pretty run down. I suggested Delta that 1x, 2x, and so on medallion millers should start accruing miles the following year based on the status gained. No reason to start from zero if you are silver or higher for life. But, after changing CEO, Delta has joined the other airlines in “cheapness” and extracting all possible income from passengers (including restrictions on using lounges). Long gone the days you dress to fly and all flight attendants were friendly. The travel industry will… Read more »

LOL…that’s what inside the envelope! Mine is still sitting on a stack of mail and I had simply assumed it was the newest lifetime Silver Medallion card.

I don’t know if it is just dumb luck, but I’ve kept my several-years-old metal Diamond Medallion bag tag attached to my checked luggage. I don’t check bags too often, but when I do, it usually pops out fairly quickly with the other priority luggage. YMMV.

I never look at other people’s tags and I’m posting to a points and miles comment board. Guessing 99% of fellow travelers won’t notice so go for it.

In the past I’ve been fine displaying the Delta brag tags when they actually had my name, FF#,, had some function. The big red 2M looks cool, but I don’t think I’ll be using it. It will probably be a somewhat common site at ATL. Maybe I’ll put it on my gym bag.
