What’s more American that ridiculously over-sized portions? Perhaps in a nod to our July 4 celebrations, we entered our room, a suite upgrade, at the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney to see maxi-size bath amenities.
The normal Club Carlson bottles are tiny and I have cracked fair number trying to squeeze something out. The contents are 30 ml (1 fl oz).
We had 60 ml (2 fl oz) portions in bottles about triple the size of the regular.
The bath soap was also big and was placed by a Jacuzzi bath with jets so powerful most of the bathroom got spritzed when activated.
In many Club Carlson stays around the world I had never seen these maxi-size bottles. I confirmed with housekeeping that the Sydney hotel only uses them for high-end rooms such as suites. (I also saw on her cart some Tim Tams that other lucky rooms got and we did not.)
A touch of American excess on this holiday so far from home. Makes me wistful.
By the way, the Radisson Blu Plaza, one of two Radissons in downtown Sydney, went above and beyond for Club Carlson Gold with Business Class Room and full breakfast included, a big surprise to me. My general experience is good elite status treatment in Central America, Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe and sometimes in Asia. UK, Western Europe, and Northern Europe not good at all, sometimes Business Class upgrades excluding breakfast, for instance.

@Stefan – Yes Nespresso as well as an electric kettle for tea. I don’t drink coffee but I do drink Iced Tea, so I made good use of the kettle and the ice machine.
Last night my room at the RaddisonBlu Oslo Airport had these. I was upgraded to a “Business Class” room, or so it said on the door. The only thing different from the regular room was the robe and slippers on the bed and the maxi-size bottles.
@Pat – and the Nespresso machine? At one in Paris the manager told me the feature of upgrade was that so now I call it the ‘Nespresso upgrade.’

We had the mega sized bath amenities at the Radisson Blu Copenhagen Falconer. We had a family suite or some kind of suite, I can’t remember what it was called, but it had a bedroom and a living room. It was approaching dorm-like, but comfortable and it had a Nespresso machine and mega sized bath amenities. 🙂 I’d actually really recommend it. Loved that hotel this March for four nights, and also experienced great treatment, a curved suite upgrade at turret end of the hotel, and the same large amenities. My wife was taken with them enough to bring a few sets home for future trips. If you are still there, Sydney’s favorite Bowl of Malay laksa is only a few steps away at Malay Chinese Takeaway. Shop 1, 50-58 Hunter St, Sydney New South Wales 2000. Your kind of place.
@Rich T – sounds like you were in 1215, too? We got in to Brisbane last night and are koala-bound so the laksa will need to be next time. My wife did the same.
