New York was a place of remembrance and deep emotions today. The Rapid Traveler has no claim to profundity but shares two moments of the day.
The day began with return of a rental car to Newark (EWR), passing through threadbare Terminal A, the parking lot under the departures level barricaded and neglected, now a desultory walkway from ground transportation, occupied only by employees on smoke break. It seems frozen in time and symbolizes the frustration at lack of progress and imagination in many areas since that terrible day.
But with a calm night settling in, seen from Newport, the towers ephemerally glowed to life again.
