We visited New York City for Valentine’s last year and stayed in the Park Hyatt. We used spg points for a broadway show and enjoyed dining out and exploring the city.
I’m not sure if this is supposed to be Valentine’s day specific, but for our 5 year anniversary this past November I took my wife on our first big points/miles trip to Italy. We spent Valentine’s Day this year in Chicago. We stayed at the Hyatt on points and had a good time wandering around the city, eating deep dish pizza and Chicago-style hotdogs. It was also a “Museums on Us” weekend for Bank of America cardholders, so my husband and I got in to the MCA and Shedd Aquarium for free.
We used two free night certificates from the Hyatt credit card and stayed at the Park Hyatt Vendome in Paris for Valentine’s Day last year. We got upgraded to a junior suite and had a wonderful weekend wandering around the city, going wine tasting, checking out cheese shops, and visiting the Louvre.
I can’t think of any particular romantic travel stories. But I do really want those pajamas. My husband and I have been to lots of great places together. Starting with many trips back and forth from Iowa to California when I was still in grad school, but he had been out in Silicon Valley since before the bubble burst. There was the time we went to Paris on our “honeymoon”, (which really just meant our first real vacation after we got married) and ended up with a room with twin beds. 9 years ago my husband and I met in class. We bonded over the love of “The Office” and travel. So we agreed to go as travel buddies and scheduled a trip to Singapore to celebrate the end of the semester 3 months later. By the time that trip rolled around we had begun dating!

For our 25th anniversary, I scored huge hubby-points by planning a surprise renewal of our vows ceremony on Santorini. I arranged for both of our children, their spouses and our first grandchild to meet us on our cruise ship departing from Rome to serve as our matron and man of honor. Once missed a flight because of issues arranging for a car for my pick up… but ended up meeting my boyfriend for the next two years on my rebooked flight!
My most romantic Valentine’s Day was about three years ago. I worked rotating 12-hour shifts, so sometimes on special days I am not around. But this one particular Valentine’s Day I was coming home at 8 a.m. off of the midnight shift. Typically my wife and daughters were all home when I would get in from work. Last year Valentines Day, I surprised my wife with a trip to Hawaii (Honolulu and Kauai) for our 10th Anniversary, which also happens to fall out a couple weeks after Valentines Day. The best part was, she had no idea where we were going until we were on the plane to Honolulu. It was a lot of work (asking at the airport not to say anything, trying to get flight attendants and captain not to disclose) but it was worth it in the end.
I just met my potential significant other at 36,000 feet and I still feel like I am at that altitude!!!!!!
