Rocketmiles is a hotel booking website that offers airline miles for hotel bookings.

Earning varies by hotel, date and length of stay. Rates may or may not be competitive with booking direct or other websites. Like other non-direct booking channels, you generally will not earn points in the hotel’s loyalty program. Granting on any elite benefits is subject to whim of the hotel.

Rocketmiles made a big splash last year with offers from various airlines as well as refer-a-friend of 1,000 miles. I never signed up since I rarely book cash rates at the kind of hotels that participate and most rates are nonrefundable.

When I sampled JetBlue this weekend to complete my PointsMatch, it meant also sampling JetBlue’s woeful irregular operations handling. I had a Citi Prestige trip delay claim in the making. I recalled I had a 4,000 United mile sign-up offer good to September 30, 2016, so booked the Hyatt Regency Boston for a total reward of 8,000 miles (4,000 bonus + 4,000 for the booking).

The rate was the same as Hyatt’s book direct rate (Hyatt Diamond members had a $20 discount from the public book direct rate). I am Hyatt Diamond and at check-in, after showing my Hyatt card, the agent asked if I wanted 1,000 points or welcome amenity and confirmed my breakfast benefit. Check-out was yesterday and I have not yet seen the points or a bill.
