Lufthansa 747-8 Business Class, er, Footsie Class

Germans love their foot games. It extends to the new Lufthansa 747-8 business class seat which stimulates a game of footsie with your neighbor.

Mind your wandering feet!

You need both strong legs and balance to emerge from the window seat when the aisle seat is in lay flat mode as this is no direct aisle access business class.

I am a consumer rather than connoisseur of airplane cabins. When I posted I’ll Be Flying the Lufthansa ‘Bangalore Express’ I heard this is Lufthansa’s top-end business class seat, the only non-angled lay flat. No wonder aviation nuts only rave about Lufthansa first class. I was much happier with the Air Canada 777 herringbone seat on the first leg of my trip. Lufthansa seems way behind the times. As I have explored more of vaunted Star Alliance, I am not particularly impressed.

Two other curiosities:

1. The armrest holds the tray, remote, and way down in the dark the headset jack and USB jack. Good luck seeing them without perfect light streaming in. In the darkened cabin I fumbled around and around each time I needed to plug something in.

Where is everything?

Now where do I plug in my earphones?

I should have brought a miner’s helmet

2. The AVOD has perhaps the least amount of recent films of any I have seen. They don’t even have the typical ‘New Releases’ or ‘Hollywood Hits’ section. And no ‘All Films’ index, either. But, kudos for including English subtitles on even English language films. Great for English as a second language viewers and for those of us who don’t like to miss a word despite all the background noise.

English subtitles, yay!

I was on a business trip, and lucky to be in business class. I got a fine sleep, food was fine, service was fine, no big complaints. Just a seat about a decade behind where it should be. I post this for the oddities and for those who plan their dream trips around specific aircraft and seats. This one should not be an ‘aspirational’ goal, and not worth the effort to specifically find this plane over other Lufthansa equipment.  For more pictures, see One Mile at a Time’s Lufthansa 747-8 New Business Class Frankfurt to Washington.

So the seat was less than stellar, but was the flight as business friendly as the articles say? Did you notice a lot of business being done, or is that overblown?

IFE selection on Lufthansa is terrible in general. On the Thai A380 in Royal First I spent a good 10-15 minutes trying to locate the headphone jack before I finally found it, located in a similarly obscured position. Super annoying.
