Air Vanuatu’s frequent flyer program is Qantas Frequent Flyer.
That was all good and well until January when Qantas, Air New Zealand and, later, Virgin Australia, suspended flights and to Vanuatu over a dispute on safety of the runway in Port Vila. This extended to their codeshare agreements, see Qantas statement. Qantas’ website still shows earn miles for Air Vanuatu, however the airline and country has otherwise mostly been scrubbed from the website.
I called up Qantas to see if I could book and award on Air Vanuatu for Noumea, New Caledonia to Port Vila and they came back with the codeshare suspension.
The brinkmanship continues. In post yesterday on the blog Plane Talking, Vanuatu is arguing the runway is safe.
I shall soon find out!

I flew in and out of Port Vila in January and my friend just flew in and out at the end of March. No problems so far but sad to see this happening as the tourist economy is so important to Vanuatu.
I believe the Port Vila airport was built by the Americans in WWII. I guess 70 years later it is due for some major upkeep!
