My experience is that Europe chain hotels east of the German speaking countries generally give better elite status treatment and benefits than the western countries, so I am more likely to splurge on a higher-level chain hotel.
I have liked most Hotel Indigo I have tried. Hotel Indigo Shanghai on the Bund is my favorite chain boutique hotel. Only real dud I have found is Hotel Indigo Anaheim which you can picture a Hampton Inn with someone sticking on multi-colored wall panels.
