  • This might be a long shot, but I have a couple questions regarding car-rentals in Europe — I’m currently trying to put together a roadtrip through the Balkans, starting in Croatia and eventually finishing in either Bulgaria or Greece (depending on logistics). The main problems I’m encountering are currently that I am currently 19 (and thus not allowed to rent with many agencies) and that the one-way car rental is either extortionately expensive or plainly disallowed. Do you know of any car rental companies that would be willing to rent to an “underage” driver such as myself? Any ideas on the one-way rentals? I’ve been striking out with most CDPs so far unfortunately.

I was also going to ask about Turkmenistan, but sadly my LOI was denied — I reapplied, but I’m not optimistic… I’ll probably replace Turkmenistan with the Golden Ring around Moscow. Any experience there?

@Adam K – the only thing I can think of is locating local agencies that might waive the age though going to be even worse for one-way as they may be country-specific. You might have to do planes, trains, and buses this go-round. The other option for long trips is to buy a beater car and try to sell it at the end of the trip.
