Stacking AA Rental Car Bonuses for Avis Budget

I am heading to Dallas for Frequent Traveler University and have been learning about American Airlines this year. It shows my starting point on AA when I have never been to Dallas, even its airport. I’ll  be presenting The Secrets of Renting Cars at Home & Abroad, Saturday, April 18 at 16:00.

AA has a longtime partnership with Avis Budget for discounts and bonus miles. It does not have the elite status benefits of the recent Delta and United tie-ups with Hertz. I have found AA rates to often be strong in Latin America and have used them for several rentals in the region.

AA has base earning throughout the year with Avis Budget of 500 miles/rental and generally has a better promo running. Current offer through June 15, 2015 is for 500 miles/day up to 2,500 for rentals of 5 days or more. Access the offer at the AA Rental Cars site here. This offer uses Avis AWD #K817165 with coupon #MUAA094 and for Budget, BCD #U072411 and coupon #MUAZ051.

The thing is, AA has a separate AWD #K817100 and BCD #U072400 for elites with the following base earning:

  • AAdvantage members: 500 miles per rental
  • Citi® / AAdvantage® cardholders and AAdvantage® Aviator MasterCard® cardholders: 750 miles per rental
  • Platinum and Gold members: 1,000 miles per qualifying rental
  • Executive Platinum members: 1,250 miles per qualifying rental

So, for card holders and elites, why not combine the offers and eek out a little more? A quick test on Avis shows the elite AWD with the coupon applied. It prices the same with either AWD. You need to manually edit the fields on the Avis and Budget websites.

I have not had a chance to rent, though think it should work. 1,750 for an Executive Platinum to rent one day is a nice deal compared to other mile-earning offers.

Readers, any experience stacking these?
